6 Family Fun rituals to celebrate -

Pregnancy is a dream come true for most women. And 'the moment when a girl becomes really a woman. It 'a time of celebration, not only for you but also for the whole family.

Women all over the world sign of this beautiful journey to motherhood with numerous rituals. These rituals are not only a sign of tradition, but also a way to show love and support for the expectant mother.

Let's take a look inside families around the world and see how they celebrate babyshower:

1. India:

Indian rituals mark almost all stages of life. Therefore, it is no surprise that during pregnancy, the Indian women go through elaborate rituals to celebrate the upcoming birth of their children.

India is a vast country. Every part of India has different ways of celebrating pregnancy:

  • In North India, the ritual is known as 'godh bharaai'. The celebrations include fun games, amazing food, and gifts galore.
  • In Maharashtra, a ritual called Dohaaljewan, celebrates pregnancy.
  • In West Bengal, Shaadh is the term for baby shower. 'Shaadh' means 'desire' or 'desire'. Therefore, this ritual is all about food that the pregnant woman craves to eat cooking
  • In South India, the festival involves elaborate rituals and has various names like -! Seemantham, Pulikudi or Valaikaapu. The event takes place on the 5th, 7th or 9th month of pregnancy.

The superstitious belief may stem from the fact that women born in India are 60% more likely to give birth to stillborn children (1).

2. China:

In China, pregnant women and their families offer prayers to the Chinese Bodhisattva Guan Yin goddess (goddess of mercy) and Jin Hua Fu Ren (Lady Golden Flower). These prayers are for the protection of both the mother and the child (2).

3. Brazil:

‘Chá de Bebe '(baby tea) is a party to celebrate pregnancy. A women-only event, aims to pamper the expectant mother with gifts and a big party.

4. Iran:

The Sismoony party is a family ritual that typically takes one to three months before the birth of child. Family and friends of the pregnant woman to bring gifts for the unborn child and indulge in some good-natured fun

5. South Africa:

The Party Stork, the equivalent of South Africa for a baby shower, occurs when the woman was six months pregnant. A women-only event, stork festivals are all gifts, laughter and fun!

6. Europe and the Americas:

Family and friends to plan a baby shower as a surprise for the new mother. Originally baby showers were an opportunity to ensure that the new baby had everything you could need.
