A word of caution:
Basil is safe to consume during pregnancy, however, make sure that you consume in adequate amounts and not in excess. In addition, pregnant women should wash the grass before consuming it as unwashed basil may contain harmful parasites and bacteria that can lead to infections and food-borne diseases, such as listeriosis and toxoplasmosis. Using too much basil can cause pregnant mothers to have symptoms such as heart palpitations, shortness of breath, convulsions, dizziness, urination or heavy coma, hypoglycemia and possibly uterine contractions, makes pregnant mothers at risk of preterm birth.
